Meanwhile, I see the AVClub reviewer being completely sure that Earth-1 Snart was straight, and it's just another reminder that at the end of the day Wentworth Miller's own headcanon about his character's sexuality means less than nothing if canon gives no unambiguous textual suppost to it.
Like, it's nice that Leo is textually gay. Finally. Took them four years. They still don't get any cookies for "queer representation" when it comes to his Earth-1 counterpart.
I'm all for ignoring canon when it fails in some way, but I also kinda would like it to fail less?
(And I want more actual queer characters onscreen, not just "oh, maybe they are, maybe they aren't, let's leave it open to interpretation..." Let's leave het stuff "open to interpretation", maybe? Are this male character and this female character more than friends? Well, if you choose to see it like this, who are we to tell you not to? But this male character definitely crushes - not "man-crushes"! - on that other male character, and this female character totally bangs that other female character. Meanwhile, all the interactions between Male Character and Female Character can easily be seen as just platonic friendship with some easily dismissable, barely-there shipteasing maybe-thrown-in once in a while...)
