7 February 2018 16:25There is a novelization of... certain TV series that many, many years ago were somewhat responsible for the soap ballet's existence*. (If the series were based on any books, I assume it'd be mentioned both in Wikipedia and in the credits.) I read the Book 1 and it's... not good. There are "wise savages" (uuughhh...), random sex scenes and equally random inexplicable homophobia. There were no gay characters in Series 1, even the-dude-who-works-in-fashion-industry was straight! But the author just needed someone to occasionally complain about the existence of non-straight people somewhere offscreen. The part of it can be blamed on the translation**, I suppose - maybe in the original text there were more "neutral" words that got translated as slurs? But now I'm kinda afraid of readind Book 2, because it's prooobably not just an author's own fanfic about What I Think Happened Next, but a novelization of Series 2. And Series 2 had an Actual (Evil) Lesbian. So it might get even worse.

*Whenever I'm frustrated by a TV show, I'm pouring my frustration into this misshapen monster of a story. "I didn't like this thing, in my story I'll do it differently! Or maybe instead of doing the same thing differently, I'll just go and do a completely different thing!"
**I assume that the writer actually exists and is not the same person as the translator. I don't tend to read het romance novels, so her name doesn't tell me anything. She might be pretty famous in her home country... not famous enough to be on Wikipedia, though. But then, Wikipedia doesn't actually know everything about everyone.
