unsatisfactory_personSo in the next season Harry realises he Misses Something In His Life, Kreisberg says. Looks like he's getting a love interest. Somehow I doubt that said love interest would be a dude. Somehow I suspect that a certain character is about to be recycled as a random love interest for a Wells and that kinda makes me angry on her behalf. (And on someone else's behalf, even though I don't think Someone Else would be very angry about it. He'd want her to be happy.)
"You're a hypocrite, you want Hartley to date a Wells, what's the difference?! And you don't even like Tracy and didn't even ship her and HR!" - I like her well enough to not want her to be nothing more than a Convenient Het Love Interest once again instead of an actual character she could have been if TPTB cared more. And no, hypothetically shipping Hartley with some hypothetical Wells is not the same. Hartley needs some kind of closure, the show needs a Wells who is explicitly, textually Not Straight. Tracy didn't fall in love with a Secret Supervillain who manipulated and hurt her. Hartley never met an actual Wells. And, okay, Eobard and some hypothetical real Wells wouldn't be interchangeable either. But if Tracy gets paired off with Harry-as-HR's-replacement, it would be seriously unfair both to HR and to her. Unfair in the way that Hartley getting together with some Wells wouldn't be unfair to Hartley. (Look, Nonexistent Readers, maybe I can't properly explain the difference, but I feel it. No, it's not about one ship being het and the other being slash. Feel free not to believe. I don't care - you're nonexistent anyway.)
(Shipping Cisco/All The Wellses is also not the same, because I never intended to - it just happened. And then I kinda decided to keep doing that just out of spite, but, really, if Cisco and Some New Wells will barely interact, I'm not going to force myself to ship them. It will happen or it won't.)
